Kohima: A two-day workshop on Voice Culture and Articulation started today in Kohima. The National Academy of Broadcasting and Multimedia Delhi joined forces with Akashvani Kohima to host the event. It is happening at the conference hall of the Angami Students Union. The sessions focus on improving presentation skills, news reading, and diction for radio jockeys and dialect presenters.
KK Rengma, the Head of Office at Akashvani Kohima, opened the proceedings. Rehan Ahmad Warsi and Sunil Bhatia from Prasar Bharati joined the inauguration virtually. The training addresses the need to keep dialects pure. Dr. D.K. Mazumder of NABM Delhi highlighted the role of announcers as cultural gatekeepers. He stated, "Dialects are more than a means of communication, as they carry the history, customs, emotions, worldview and collective identity of communities."
Mazumder urged participants to avoid linguistic mixing while adapting to new digital platforms. He identified diction, articulation, and intonation as the pillars of quality broadcasting. Experts from various tribal literature boards are leading the sessions, which cover 15 distinct dialects. Akashvani Kohima holds the record for the highest number of dialect programs in India.
Ella Kayina, Head of Programme, noted the significance of this training. The station previously held a similar collaboration in 2001. Officials hope the workshop will sharpen skills and solidify the station's commitment to public service broadcasting. These presenters act as the bridge between listeners and vital information.
