Akashvani Kohima Trains Correspondents to Boost Regional News

Kohima: Akashvani Kohima hosted a one-day workshop for Part-Time Correspondents from nine districts on September 17. The session took place at the Regional News Unit conference hall. Experts pushed for better coverage of local stories from Nagaland to reach national audiences.

S Subramanian, Additional Director General at News Services Division in New Delhi, noted that Northeast stories often miss the cut for national bulletins. He urged the attendees to bridge the gap between their region and the mainstream. The event focused on professional standards and practical reporting skills.

Credibility matters most. Mohd Naseem Naqvi, Deputy Director for the News Services Division, told the group that accuracy should take precedence over speed. He pressed reporters to showcase the state's culture, flora, and fauna.

Veteran journalist Alice Yhoshu broke down the basics of ethics and report writing. She reminded the correspondents that journalists carry a significant responsibility in their work. Editorial Executive Mary explained how to move content from the field to the airwaves for radio.

Asonuo, Additional Director of the Regional News Unit in Kohima, led a session on mobile journalism. She explained how to use smartphones to function like portable newsrooms. One correspondent shared personal field stories to close the day.
