Kohima: The Merangkong Laishir Telungjem dropped a musical tribute titled Longjanglepzük to honor the village's first Christian convert. The song pays homage to Longjanglepzuk, an Ao Naga man baptized 175 years ago in Sibsagar, Assam. The historic baptism occurred on September 7, 1851.
Imna Yaden composed the track to preserve the spiritual heritage of the community. The project aims to inspire future generations by highlighting the grit of early believers. "Longjanglepzük released: MLT pays musical homage to pioneer," the group stated in a recent press release.
The official dedication ceremony took place at the Bethel Prayer Home in Nuton Bosti, Dimapur. R Amenla Imsong, the Founder Director of Bethel Prayer Home, led the dedicatory prayer and handed a formal launch certificate to Yaden. The song is live on YouTube for public viewing.
The community will hold a special Thanksgiving Programme on September 7 at Merangkong Village to celebrate the anniversary. Organizers invited community members and well-wishers to attend the event on the exact date of the original baptism.
