Kohima: Kohima officials hit a 90 percent mark for rural water access. The District Water and Sanitation Committee met on July 22 to push for full coverage by December. Additional Deputy Commissioner Ruopfukuotuo Noudi chaired the session. He demanded better coordination between departments to meet federal standards. The district must now upload missing meeting minutes to the Ministry of Jal Shakti portal.
Data shows 35 of 66 habitations now hold Har Ghar Jal status. The remaining sites face a year-end deadline. For sanitation, 46 of 63 habitations achieved ODF Plus Model status. The committee expects the final 17 to follow suit by December. Officials noted that limited cash and aggressive targets slow progress. They currently prioritize tap connections for medical centres. Noudi stressed the need for better results, stating, "The district had not uploaded the minutes of DWSC meetings over the past year and stressed the need for timely uploading of proceedings."
Schools remain a major hurdle. Out of 116 total schools, only 55 have tap water. The School Education Department holds the list of the remaining 93 rural buildings needing service. Officials plan to hand this list to the PHED Rural Division for immediate action. Awareness drives ran from June 1 to June 5 to boost public participation. The department now seeks extra help from the Rural Development office to finish the work.
