Kohima: Kohima authorities are racing to finish the Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission. District officials met on July 22 to address gaps in rural infrastructure. Additional Deputy Commissioner Ruopfukuotuo Noudi chaired the session at his office. The district hit 90 percent coverage for rural tap water. This is a massive milestone.
The PHED Rural Division provided the latest metrics. Out of 66 total habitations, 35 now hold Har Ghar Jal status. The remaining 31 face a December deadline. For sanitation, 46 of 63 habitations currently rank as ODF Plus Model villages. The other 17 must meet that standard by year-end. Work continues despite budget shortages.
The district is prioritizing water connections for medical centers. Schools remain a point of concern. The School Education Department confirmed that 55 of 116 district schools have tap water. This total includes 93 rural facilities. The committee ordered the department to submit a list of all remaining schools needing immediate hookups.
Noudi criticized the lack of administrative follow-through. He noted that the district failed to upload meeting minutes for an entire year. Citing a letter from the Ministry of Jal Shakti, he demanded better records. "The district had not uploaded the minutes of DWSC meetings over the past year and stressed the need for timely uploading of proceedings," Noudi stated.
The committee is now integrating infrastructure data onto a public portal. Officials pushed for better coordination between line departments to clear these high targets. They also requested help from the Rural Development Department. Awareness campaigns ran between June 1 and 5 to prepare the public. The clock is ticking.
