Shillong: The Union Ministry of Jal Shakti greenlit an allocation of Rs 336.62 crore for Meghalaya under the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. This funding covers the 2026-27 financial year. Public Health Engineering Minister Marcuise N. Marak secured the budget after a meeting with Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The cash infusion helps. It clears at least one-third of the outstanding bills owed to contractors working on state drinking water projects. Local contractors recently demanded payment for dues exceeding Rs 900 crore, specifically requesting at least 50 percent of their total pending money.
Marak plans to use the funds to finish ongoing supply projects and push the mission forward. He expects further installments to arrive soon. "The subsequent instalments will also be released in due course to ensure the timely implementation of the mission," he said. Marak also lobbied Patil for assistance with the Resubelpara Water Supply Scheme, hoping to bring reliable water to that region.
