Kohima: The Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) observed World Day Against Child Labour 2026 by hosting legal awareness programs at six schools throughout the Kohima district. A team of 10 panel lawyers, three advocates, and two para-legal volunteers reached 845 students and 30 teachers to discuss child rights, legal protections, and the NALSA Child Friendly Legal Services for Children Scheme.
Sessions featured experts covering critical topics such as the POCSO Act, cyber safety, and the Right to Education. At Chandmari Government High School, advocate Apila Sangtam instructed attendees on the importance of child labor laws and the use of the Child Helpline 1098. Elsewhere, at Government High School in New Market, advocate Nancy Lotha advised students to stay in schools and playgrounds, stating, "Children should remain in schools and playgrounds rather than workplaces."
Legal professionals continued these efforts across other institutions, including Government Middle School in Officers’ Hill, Government High School in Midland, Chandmari Higher Secondary School, and Government Higher Secondary School in Sechu Zubza. Discussions ranged from the dangers of child marriage to the necessity of mandatory reporting for offenses against children. The KDLSA reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to fostering a secure environment that upholds the health, education, and protection of every child.
