Guwahati: The Indian Youth Congress has suspended the appointment of Samaguri MLA Tanzil Hussain as the Vice President of the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress. General Secretary Mitendra Darshan Singh issued a notice on Tuesday confirming that the order dated May 31 is invalid until the central leadership provides further instructions.

Hussain, the son of senior Lok Sabha MP Rakibul Hussain, secured the Samaguri Assembly seat during the April elections. His appointment to the youth wing leadership sparked internal debate, with some party members pointing to factionalism within the state unit. Reports suggest the decision to hold the appointment comes as the party examines its organizational structure.

Critics within the Congress party previously expressed concern that Hussain’s elevation would sideline other prominent youth leaders, such as Zubair Anam. While the appointment was reportedly supported by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi, the central office has moved to freeze the role while an ongoing review is completed. The party has not set a timeline for when the restructuring process will conclude.
