Indian Armed Forces Mark International Day of Yoga Across Strategic Locations

Shillong: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh joined Air Force and Army personnel at the Eastern Air Command in Shillong to commemorate the International Day of Yoga. The event, which took place on June 21, featured participation from Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh. The minister used the occasion to advocate for the practice, urging the public to adopt it into their daily routines to foster a healthy body and mind.

Reflecting on the cultural significance of the day, Singh noted that the initiative has become a global movement. He stated that the practice is a "holistic science and a way of life that connects individuals with themselves, society and nature."

Celebrations occurred across the country in various challenging environments. Military personnel performed yoga at locations ranging from the Siachen Glacier and the Rann of Kutch to remote border areas. In the national capital, Chief of Defence Staff General N.S. Raja Subramani presided over a session at the National War Memorial. Meanwhile, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi participated in activities alongside troops stationed in Tezpur, Assam.

A large-scale event took place at the Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment, drawing over 3,500 participants including veterans, NCC cadets, and civilians. Notably, defence representatives from more than 17 countries joined the session, which was led by Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth. The Navy and Coast Guard also conducted synchronized exercises on warships and at coastal facilities, aligning their health initiatives with the theme of Yoga for Healthy Ageing.
