India and Bangladesh Traders Push for Border Trade Expansion

Shillong: Trade groups from India and Bangladesh want more variety in the goods moving through the Majai Land Customs Station. Officials met at Bholaganj on July 3 to discuss swapping limestone for coal, farm goods, and fruit. They expect this move to create jobs and grow local economies.

The Bholagonj Chonapathar Amdanekarak Group and the United New Majai Exporters’ & Importers’ Association held the talks. Both sides want faster shipping and better communication. Regular meetings will now help solve trade problems. Challenge Rajee, president of the Indian association, joined Bangladesh counterparts Md Shahab Uddin, Bosher Ahamed, and Md Najrul Islam to set the agenda.

Delegates stated, "The representatives concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade through the Majai LCS and expressed optimism that increased commercial exchanges would benefit businesses, local communities and the economies of both countries." The groups plan to keep talking to find new deals and fix issues on the fly.
