Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department has issued a wide-ranging alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall across Assam. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati, these unsettled weather conditions are expected to persist from June 10 through June 16.

Western, central, and southern parts of the state face the most significant impact. Forecasters expect intense rainfall in Kokrajhar, Chirang, and Baksa between June 11 and June 13, while other areas like Tamulpur and Udalguri also prepare for heavy precipitation. The Brahmaputra Valley, including Kamrup and Nagaon, will likely see frequent thunderstorms and lightning.

Upper Assam districts, such as Lakhimpur, Jorhat, and Dibrugarh, are slated for moderate to heavy rain. Meanwhile, southern districts including Dima Hasao and Cachar will experience persistent stormy conditions. The weather bureau specifically noted that Hailakandi and Sribhumi face risks of isolated very heavy rainfall.

In response to the forecast, officials have urged residents to stay alert. The IMD advised people, "particularly those living in low-lying areas and vulnerable areas, to remain cautious and monitor weather updates." Local authorities encourage citizens to follow safety advisories closely as the week progresses.
