Kohima: A four-day training program focused on scientific mithun husbandry wrapped up on June 5 at the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun in Medziphema. The session hosted 28 farmers from Mirem Village, Arunachal Pradesh, who spent four days learning how to boost animal productivity and farm profitability.
Dr. Girish Patil, Director of the institute, opened the event by emphasizing that adopting modern techniques is essential for the region. He noted that such measures would help strengthen the livelihoods of tribal farming communities. During the program, he urged participants to implement these scientific practices to improve animal health and overall farm success.
The curriculum covered essential topics including breeding, feeding, healthcare, housing, and fodder production. Participants also gained hands-on experience through an exposure visit to the institute farm and the Khonoma Mithun Conservation Unit, where they studied community-based conservation and sustainable management strategies.
Beyond livestock care, the training introduced farmers to entrepreneurship and the value addition of mithun meat and milk. By learning new processing techniques, attendees explored ways to generate additional income from their products. The event concluded with a certificate ceremony, as farmers expressed their interest in applying these new technologies to their operations back home.
