Agartala: Torrential rains swamped Tripura over the last 24 hours. Agartala took the brunt of the storm with 138 mm of rainfall recorded between 8:30 a.m. on July 12 and 8:30 a.m. on July 13. High water levels paralyzed traffic and disrupted daily life throughout the state capital and surrounding areas.

Other regions faced significant downpours. Bishramganj in the Sepahijala district tallied 116 mm, while South Tripura saw 85 mm and Amarpur in the Gomati district recorded 61.3 mm. Officials confirmed the flooding on Monday, July 13.

The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for West Tripura and Sepahijala. These areas should prepare for 7 cm to 20 cm of rainfall. The rest of the state sits under a yellow alert. The weather agency expects the wet weather to persist through July 16.

Multiple atmospheric systems are driving the deluge. An upper air cyclonic circulation hangs over the North Bay of Bengal and South Bangladesh at altitudes between 4.5 km and 5.8 km. A second circulation sits over East Bangladesh at 3.1 km. A trough also stretches from northwest Bihar to Manipur, crossing directly over Tripura.

These systems pull moisture into the region, keeping the skies dark and the ground soaked. Authorities warned residents in low-lying zones to stay alert. "The prevailing weather conditions are being influenced by multiple atmospheric systems," the IMD stated.
