Agartala: Two days of relentless rain buried Aman paddy fields in Kalyanpur under water. Crops in Durgapur, West Dwarikapur, and the Baganbazar sector face total saturation. Farmers fear the standing water will ruin their harvest if the skies do not clear.
Agriculture Department officials arrived on site to survey the damage. Circle in-charge Sajal Das joined Sector Officer Tanuj Debbarma and official Rabindra Kumar Banik to inspect the submerged plots in Durgapur and West Dwarikapur. Nearby, Sector Officer Ranbir Debbarma led a separate assessment team through Ghilatli. The teams gathered data from farmers to process claims for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
Agriculture Supervisor Debraj Barman said the damage is currently limited. He told the affected workers, "Farmers will receive compensation through crop insurance, ensuring financial protection against losses."
Local farmers pushed officials to improve drainage and complete accurate loss reports immediately. They worry that prolonged water exposure will kill the plants. The department promised that all collected data will guide future compensation efforts. These inspections offer a lifeline to the region.
