Government Targets Iewduh Site to Relocate GS Road Hawkers

Shillong: State officials identified a plot near the Iewduh parking lot to house hawkers currently crowding GS Road and Motphran. Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar confirmed the site selection on Monday. The move aims to clean up the city's most congested commercial zones.

Government teams are currently ironing out the logistics. "We will carry out the relocation in phases," Dhar said. Officials remain optimistic about the timeline. The administration expects the shift to proceed smoothly under current oversight.

This initiative follows a separate push to clear Laitumkhrah. That specific relocation project ends August 17. Affected vendors in that district move to the Dhankheti parking lot and the Brightwell Bungalow compound. Dhar noted that officers are actively managing the transition to ensure street vending stays organized.
