Shillong: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar confirmed on Wednesday that the government will meet later this month to evaluate the ongoing Them Iew Mawlong relocation. This inter-departmental session serves as a precursor to a future High Powered Committee meeting. Officials need a clear picture first. The government wants to finalize its position before involving other parties.
Dhar ordered the Urban Affairs Department, the Home Department, and local authorities managing defence land to submit comprehensive status reports by late August. These internal reviews aim to tackle years of administrative stall. The Harijan Panchayat Committee will not sit in on these discussions. This remains a strictly government-led task.
The administration intends to move things along. Dhar noted that the relocation has been pending for years and stated, "the administration is working to move the process forward." The government expects this effort to clear the path for the High Powered Committee to set the final relocation schedule.
