Shillong: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar killed rumors of government instability on Monday. He insists the NPP-led MDA 2.0 coalition remains united and on track to finish its term. The party holds 33 seats. Dhar maintains the full support of all NPP legislators.
He shut down talk of a leadership change or internal rifts between himself, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong. He labeled claims of a pending cabinet reshuffle as unfounded. He stated, "The MDA 2.0 Government is not under any threat."
The coalition remains secure even if the eight UDP MLAs jump ship to the BJP. Dhar says the NPP keeps its promises. He pointed to state investment as proof of fair treatment, noting over Rs 400 crore for Mawsynram and Ranikor and Rs 384 crore for Mawshynrut. Contracts go to the lowest bidder.
Dhar dismissed the idea that NPP MLAs would switch sides. He also shrugged off the reported UDP interest in the BJP as an internal party matter. He maintains the government will last until 2028. Routine trips to Delhi for meetings with officials like Union Home Minister Amit Shah are for business, not political realignment.
