Shillong: NPP national vice-president Sniawbhalang Dhar shut down rumors of a secret alliance with the BJP on Friday. He pushed back against talk that the party might shift its political stance. The NPP remains committed to its original principles. It refuses to betray the mandate given by the people of Meghalaya.
Dhar spoke during a campaign stop in Mawryngkneng. He stumped for D.R.L. Nonglait, the party candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha bypoll. He kept his message simple. "We will remain in this uniform," he said.
The party claims its cooperation with the central government serves one purpose: development. It rejects any suggestion of a broader ideological shift. Dhar insisted that working with the BJP does not mean changing colors. "When we work together with the BJP, it means we are working for development."
Dhar also addressed mounting criticism regarding the debt held by the MDA government. He noted that state borrowing follows strict rules. Leaders cannot take out loans at will. He told opponents to bring their public grievances to the Assembly. Take them to the table. Keep them off the streets.
