Agartala: The Tripura Crime Branch has arrested four police officers for allegedly tampering with a shipment of seized narcotics at the Teliamura Police Station in the Khowai district. The group includes Inspector Ajit Debbarma, Sub-Inspector Rajendra Reang, Woman Sub-Inspector Sampa Das, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Sachindra Debbarma.

The incident stems from a May 20 mobile patrol where officers intercepted a vehicle carrying codeine-based Eskuf cough syrup. Investigators later reviewed CCTV footage from the station, which reportedly showed the officers removing 245 bottles of the syrup from the general diary room before the formal seizure documentation was completed. Authorities claim the officers dishonestly concealed the contraband, which constitutes a commercial quantity under the NDPS Act.

State Director General of Police Anurag ordered the registration of a criminal case following the discovery. The officers now face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the NDPS Act. Beyond their arrests, all four individuals have been suspended from duty pending an impartial investigation into the theft. The suspects were scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
