FGN Demands Apology From UNC Over Release of Kuki Detainees

Kohima: The Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) has publicly condemned the United Naga Council (UNC) for its role in the release of Kuki detainees on June 9. In a statement released on June 13, the FGN accused the organization of working against Naga interests and acting under the influence of external forces.

The FGN alleged that the detainees were released from the custody of the Naga Village Guards without consulting the Zeliangrong community or the families of six abducted Nagas. According to the government, this decision has caused unnecessary division and regional instability. The FGN further criticized the UNC for failing in its original mandate to protect the ancestral lands and interests of southern Nagas.

Asserting that the organization has lost its moral standing, the FGN suggested that the UNC should consider dissolving itself if it persists in actions deemed harmful to the public. The statement emphasized that the community maintains the democratic right to push for leadership changes within the organization. While calling for solidarity, the FGN urged citizens to resist what it termed "evil forces" and remain unified in their efforts.
