Shillong: The family of murdered Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi is backing the Meghalaya government in its fight to put his accused wife back behind bars. They view the state's move to challenge Sonam Raghuvanshi’s bail in the Supreme Court as a step toward justice. The high court will hear the matter this Friday.
Sonam sits free in Shillong while the legal battle drags on. She secured bail on April 27 following ten months in Shillong District Jail. Her freedom terrifies the victim's family. They fear she will flee or lean on witnesses to derail the case. "We thank the Meghalaya government for approaching the Supreme Court against Sonam's bail," said the victim's brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi.
The state went to the top court after the Meghalaya High Court tossed out their plea to cancel the bail on June 29. Police initially caught Sonam in Ghazipur on June 9, 2025. She faces charges for allegedly plotting to kill her husband while they were on their honeymoon in Meghalaya. Vipin maintains the family stance. "We have full faith in the judiciary. We hope the truth will prevail," he said.
