Eastern Nagaland Student Union Identifies Critical Service Gaps in Education and Healthcare

Kohima: The Eastern Nagaland Sumi Students Union (ENSSU) recently completed a five-day educational tour to assess the quality of public services across the region. Running from May 26 to May 30, 2026, the initiative focused on the theme of ensuring quality education through collective engagement. Akukatou Vikato Yeptho, the founding president of the union, inaugurated the tour at Phisami Village and encouraged the delegation to remain steadfast in its mission to foster community development.

During the tour, members visited various government schools, healthcare facilities, and administrative offices to gather feedback from local stakeholders. At Government High School in Sitimi Town, the union praised the students for their strong academic performance but highlighted an urgent need for more staff. The school currently operates without Mathematics and Science teachers and lacks essential personnel for Hindi, Montessori, and physical education instruction.

Healthcare and administrative access also emerged as major concerns. The delegation reported that the Primary Health Centre in Seyochung was closed during their visit, prompting a call for the government to ensure that medical services remain functional and uninterrupted. Furthermore, the Office of the Extra Assistant Commissioner in Sitimi was found to be non-functional, forcing residents to travel to the Seyochung administrative headquarters for basic services. The union urged authorities to appoint an official to the post immediately to restore local governance.

The team also inspected the Lighthouse Construction Project in Sitimi, noting its importance to the local community and emphasizing the need for its timely completion. Concluding the tour, the ENSSU reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the region and called for more responsive departmental interventions to bridge these critical service gaps.
