Kohima: The East Dimapur Youth Organization (EDYO) has called on the state government to urgently establish a dedicated dumping site and modernize waste management services. In a formal appeal to the advisor for urban development and municipal affairs, the group warned that the lack of infrastructure is creating a severe public health crisis.
EDYO president Kanato and general secretary Chumbemo reported that garbage is piling up throughout East Dimapur, leading to persistent foul odors and the spread of pests such as rodents and flies. The organization emphasized that this situation poses particular dangers to the elderly and children in the community.
Because there is no official facility, residents have been forced to dispose of trash informally, which has caused environmental degradation and diminished the quality of life for the entire area. The organization stated, "The issue required urgent attention as it directly affected the health, well-being and living conditions of residents across East Dimapur."
To address these concerns, EDYO is demanding that authorities identify a suitable disposal site immediately. They are also calling for the implementation of reliable waste collection services and sustainable sanitation policies to prevent further health risks.
