Kohima: MLA Achumbemo Kikon, who serves as the Secretary General of the Naga People's Front, officially inaugurated a new floor extension at Don Bosco College Kohima on June 5. The project serves as a tribute to Msgr. Emmanuel Bars and Fr. Umberto Marocchino, who were the pioneering Salesian missionaries in the region.
Kikon, recently appointed as the Advisor to SCERT and Food Processing for the Government of Nagaland, lauded the college for its role in shaping Naga society. He noted that Catholic institutions have played a vital part in providing education, spiritual guidance, and discipline to local youth. During the ceremony, he urged students to take pride in their education and work to meet the expectations of both their parents and the institution.
The Principal of the college, Fr. Dr. Tious Varghese, described the expansion as a way to foster new opportunities for learning and personal growth. Rev. Fr. Joseph Pampackal, the Provincial of the Salesian Province of Dimapur, offered a formal blessing for the site. He noted, "We are gathered not merely to bless and inaugurate a new floor extension but to celebrate a living dream that continues to grow, a dream planted long ago by courageous missionaries who believed in the yonder of this land."
Governing body member Dr. Kiyasetuo Stephen Vizo reminded students that the true value of the college lies in their character rather than just the physical space. He highlighted the institution's motto, Duty and Joy, while encouraging the students to prioritize service and environmental stewardship. Following the inauguration, Kikon and other officials participated in a tree plantation drive to mark World Environment Day.
