DNSU Demands Transparent Recruitment for Excise Department Positions

Kohima: The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) is calling for a fresh and transparent recruitment process to fill 46 constable positions within the Excise department. This demand follows a decision by the Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court, which previously set aside the recruitment process after identifying procedural irregularities and deviations from established rules.

DNSU stated that the 46 vacant posts must be filled through a new process that adheres strictly to service regulations. Beyond the current vacancies, the union is urging the government to conduct a thorough review of existing appointments within the department. They want authorities to identify and address any potential backdoor hirings to ensure justice for all applicants.

The union suggested that any positions vacated due to the removal of irregular appointments should be combined with the current 46 vacancies. They believe a single, competitive advertising process will guarantee that all eligible candidates have an equal chance to succeed based on merit. The organization expressed hope that the ongoing judicial process will strengthen accountability across public sectors.

"The union reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the interests of students, job seekers, and unemployed youth, and called upon all stakeholders to support a recruitment system that was fair, credible, transparent and accessible to all," the statement read. DNSU continues to push for systemic reform to protect the interests of unemployed youth and restore faith in public hiring.
