Kohima: The Dimapur Ao Baptist Church Youth Ministry hosted a one-day seminar titled Faith x Climate Action to mark World Environment Day. Held at the Liren Fellowship Church in Dimapur on June 5, the event encouraged young people to connect their Christian faith with ecological responsibility.
Rev. Dr. Lima Jamir, President of the Council of Baptist Churches in North East India, advocated for practical community interventions such as rooftop solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and targeted tree planting. Reflecting on his long history of environmental work, he noted that he has spent two decades planting trees on church grounds. "Sometimes I buy, sometimes I help procure from the State Forest Department," he said.
Dr. Jamir argued that churches must adopt policies to protect existing forests. He encouraged attendees to calculate the carbon footprints of their congregations and embrace moderation in consumption as part of their discipleship. He emphasized that caring for the environment is a fundamental aspect of faith.
Renemsongla Ozukum also addressed the attendees, labeling environmental destruction a human-made catastrophe. She challenged the youth to transition from passive awareness to becoming eco-ambassadors. Highlighting the impact on Indigenous populations, she argued that addressing climate change is a core biblical duty rather than just a global mandate.
