Kohima: Dimapur-based tribal youth organisations have petitioned Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to intervene in the killings of six Naga civilians in Manipur. The memorandum, submitted via the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, calls for the state and federal governments to ensure a thorough investigation and hold the perpetrators accountable.
The groups described the abduction, torture, and mutilation of the victims as a barbaric act. They stated that this violence has left communities feeling fearful and insecure. The memorandum emphasized that such atrocities have no place in a civilised society. The youth leaders noted that while compensation might assist bereaved families, true closure depends on identifying and prosecuting those responsible for the deaths.
The organisations alleged that despite claims linking villagers from Leilon Vaiphei and Kuki militants to the abductions, no legal action has been taken. They urged the Nagaland government to push for a time-bound investigation and to demand that central security forces in Manipur operate with impartiality. The petition also called for enhanced border monitoring to prevent armed groups from entering Nagaland.
The youth bodies contrasted this violence with the recent release of 14 Kuki captives by Naga groups, which they cited as proof of a commitment to reconciliation. They urged officials to ensure that no groups involved in the conflict receive shelter or support in Nagaland, stating that the Naga people remain united in their pursuit of peace. They declared that the incident had shocked the conscience of the Naga people and all peace-loving citizens.
