Kohima: A coalition of civil society organizations in Dimapur has pledged to pursue justice for a minor sexual abuse victim, asserting that they will remain vigilant until the case is resolved. Leaders from the Naga Council Dimapur, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation, Gaonbura Union Dimapur Sadar, and Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry addressed the press to address community concerns and clarify the status of the investigation.

Zasivikho Zakiesato, president of the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation, urged the public to stay calm while investigations continue. He stated, "Till justice is given to our daughter, we will not keep quiet." Zakiesato also warned against stigmatizing the victim or linking the crime to the accused person's community, describing the incident as a dark period for the region.

The case surfaced on May 23, with an official complaint filed two days later by the Chang Union Dimapur. Authorities have registered the case under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Police have since arrested two suspects, Watimeren Jamir and an accomplice identified as Tsuktimongba.

Regarding the status of public demonstrations, Naga Council Dimapur President GK Rengma praised the Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students' Union for choosing to cancel a planned rally to ensure public safety. He emphasized that the organizations are closely monitoring the legal process. Additionally, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur President Y Imlinungla confirmed the victim is currently under the care of the Child Welfare Committee, where she is receiving professional counseling and academic support for her upcoming exams.
