Guwahati: Dima Hasao will kick off the first phase of the 2027 Census after August 16. Deputy Commissioner Gayatri Devidas Hailing confirmed the timeline at a press conference in Haflong on Friday, July 31. This initial stage focuses on house listing and housing data. Enumerators will track living conditions and available amenities for every local household.
Residents can input their data early. They get access to a new digital portal for self-enumeration starting August 2. Users have until August 16 to submit household details before field workers arrive. Hailing says this marks a major shift. "The 2027 Census will be the 16th Census of India and the eighth since Independence," she stated.
This counts as the country's first large-scale digital census. Officials are pushing for tech-driven data management to boost speed and precision. The second phase, focusing on population totals, lands in February 2027. Teams will gather specific stats on social, educational, and economic status to help guide future policy.
District officials want full cooperation from all residents. They need accurate information to plan for healthcare, housing, and infrastructure. This data forms the bedrock for all government resource allocation.
