Guwahati: Seven hundred students pledged to stay away from drugs in Dhubri. The PM Shri Dhubri Government Girls Higher Secondary School hosted the session on August 7. Organized by the local unit of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, the event targeted substance abuse among teens.
The gathering is part of the 10-Crore Addiction-Free Pledge Mega Campaign. This national effort runs from August 6 to August 20, 2026. More than 5,500 branches of the organization are participating nationwide. The campaign operates alongside the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and Mission SPANDAN.
Academic In-Charge Biswajit Sarkar noted that students from Classes 6 to 12 attended the lecture. The program focused on the damage caused by substance abuse. Purnima Saikia, a subject teacher, pushed for tighter bonds between schools and spiritual groups to keep kids clean. She stated, "The session highlighted the need for greater awareness and collective efforts to prevent substance abuse among adolescents and young people."
Students ended the day by swearing to avoid harmful substances. They aim to act as ambassadors for a cleaner society. Organizers hope to link local schools directly to the broader national push against addiction.
