Kohima: The Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) has formally requested a thorough, time-bound investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a minor girl in Lengrijan, Dimapur. In a memorandum submitted to the Nagaland director general of police, union leaders expressed deep concern over the incident and emphasized the need for public accountability.
The union argued that every minor deserves protection and a fair process without intimidation. DENSU president and general secretary stressed that "offences against children strike at the very foundation of a civilised society" and warned that negligence in such cases threatens public trust. To ensure a transparent process, the union requested the formation of a Special Investigation Team supervised by an officer at the rank of deputy inspector general or higher, with monitoring by DGP Rupin Sharma.
The memorandum calls for a comprehensive inquiry into all facets of the case, including the origin and legality of a firearm linked to the incident. The organization also urged officials to identify and hold accountable anyone who attempted to abet, conceal, or suppress the crime. They requested that the prosecution vigorously oppose any bail applications that might interfere with the investigation or witness testimony.
Furthermore, DENSU demanded that the victim and her family receive adequate protection from threats and harassment. The union insisted that authorities uphold the strict confidentiality requirements of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, to protect the victim's identity throughout the legal proceedings.
