Imphal: A delegation from the Indian National Congress in Manipur met with the National Human Rights Commission in New Delhi to report a severe breakdown of law and order in the state. Led by Congress Legislature Party leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh, the group presented a formal complaint to NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian regarding ongoing human rights violations and a deepening governance crisis.
The Congress party accused the Manipur government of failing to protect citizens during a period marked by civilian abductions and economic blockades. The complaint highlights the disappearance of six Naga and fourteen Kuki civilians, noting that authorities have failed to secure their safety despite several weeks passing since the incidents. The delegation demanded that the commission order the state government to disclose the status and whereabouts of these individuals within 24 hours.
Beyond the abductions, the delegation raised concerns over the disruption of national highways, which has caused critical shortages of food, medicine, and cooking gas. They requested that the NHRC direct the state's Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to initiate rescue operations, file formal police reports, and apprehend those responsible for the unrest. The party also called for official reports on the steps taken to restore the free movement of essential goods and services across the region.
Joining Keisham Meghachandra Singh in the delegation were N. Bupenda Meitei, Wahidur Rahman, Sakir Ahmed, A. Oken Singh, Toijam Lokendro Singh, Sanjita Lisham, and Youth Congress leader L. Piyari Devi.
