Shillong: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) slammed the state government on September 8 for stalling on critical issues. The group accused officials of replacing actual work with a cycle of promises, committees, resolutions, and press statements.
CoMSO labels this political strategy the Government by Committee Model. It claims the process follows a predictable pattern of a promise leading to a committee, a resolution, a press statement, and finally total silence. The cycle then repeats. This stall tactic hurts indigenous people. The group highlighted failures to address the relocation of Them Lew Mawlong residents, the rollout of the Inner Line Permit, and amendments to the 1950 ST Order.
Government officials hide behind paperwork. They avoid real work. CoMSO noted, “Committees do not implement policies, resolutions do not deliver justice, and press statements do not constitute governance.”
The organization insists that voters expect decisions and results rather than endless meetings. They demanded accountability and political will instead of new committees tasked with reviewing why older committees failed. CoMSO warned that residents are watching the administration closely. The group made its position clear by stating, “Promises are not performance. Resolutions are not implementation. Committees are not governance.”
