Civil society groups demand justice in Dimapur minor sexual assault case

Kohima: Civil society organizations across Nagaland are demanding justice following the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Dimapur. The incident, involving suspects O. Watimeren Jamir and Tsuktimongba, has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for strict application of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The Naga Mothers Association requested a thorough investigation into all individuals involved in the attack. The group emphasized the victim's right to privacy and urged the state government to provide necessary rehabilitation and counseling services to the survivor.

Watsü Mungdang labeled the incident an attack on the fabric of society, calling for an impartial and time bound probe. The organization expressed solidarity with the victim's family and pledged to monitor the legal proceedings closely.

Other groups, including the Western Sümi Totimi Hoho, Chakhroma Women Organization, and Dimapur Lotha Eloe Ekhung, echoed these sentiments. These organizations have called for a culture of zero tolerance toward child abuse. They urged local leaders, churches, and student bodies to unite in strengthening child protection measures across the state.

While community leaders praised law enforcement for their swift work in arresting the suspects, they warned that any leniency in the judicial process would be unacceptable. The Tenyiimi Women’s Union Dimapur joined the growing chorus of voices insisting that the state must hold the accused fully accountable for their actions.
