Kohima: Chumoukedima town leaders met June 30 to tackle the local trash crisis. Officials gathered at the DC Conference Room for a one-day workshop titled Freedom from Garbage. The goal was simple: turn town stakeholders into role models for sustainable waste disposal.

The event broke down the Solid Waste Management Rules of 2026. Experts from the Nagaland Pollution Control Board, the Public Health Engineering Department, and the Department of Urban Development laid out the law. They pushed for better segregation, collection, and disposal methods. T. Lemlila Sangtam, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, chaired the meeting.

Local business leaders and council members packed the room. The organizers want these people to act as "torchbearers and role models toward achieving sustainable growth" in the district. Everyone left with a clearer picture of how to manage waste under the updated framework.
