Kohima: The Chang Students’ Conference (CWS) launched an agitation on June 15, forcing the closure of three state government department offices in Tuensang. The protest follows the expiry of seven-day ultimatums issued on June 1 regarding long-standing concerns over staffing shortages and recruitment practices.
The affected offices include the District Education Office, the Sub-Divisional Education Office, the District Public Relations Office, and the office of the Additional Registrar of Cooperative Societies. CWS President Sanglekhamba and General Secretary N Moa stated that officials are prohibited from performing any duties during the shutdown. The organization intends to monitor the situation and may escalate its actions if the government fails to address its demands.
The grievances involve the Department of School Education and the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, both of which face criticism for transferring staff without providing suitable replacements. Additionally, the CWS continues to contest the appointment of a non-indigenous individual to a Grade IV position within the Cooperative Societies department, a concern first raised in November 2025.
Regarding the lack of government response, the Conference stated, "Despite repeated appeals, representations, and communications, no concrete action has been taken by the concerned departments." The CWS emphasized that it was left with no alternative but to launch the agitation as a legitimate and democratic means of expressing its grievances.
