Chang and Ao tribal bodies condemn Dimapur assault, warn against communal unrest

Kohima: The Chang Khulei Setshang and the Ao Senden have jointly condemned the recent sexual assault of a minor girl in Dimapur. In a statement released following a meeting in Tuensang, the two apex tribal organizations expressed their solidarity with the survivor.

The tribal bodies identified the alleged perpetrators as O Watimeren Jamir, Akangkokba, and Tsuktimongba. The organizations stated they "vehemently condemned the vile sexual crime against a minor girl at Dimapur" and called for speedy justice through the delivery of befitting exemplary punishment for the accused.

Beyond addressing the crime, the groups issued a stern warning against those who might attempt to use the incident to incite tribal or communal friction. They cautioned that any individual or group spreading hateful, defamatory, or malicious statements would face serious consequences from the two Hohos. The leadership emphasized that such rhetoric threatens the long-standing harmonious relationship between the Chang and Ao communities.

Moving forward, the organizations resolved to protect their historical friendship. Both parties affirmed their commitment to remaining steadfast in nurturing the bond between their respective communities despite any future challenges.
