Kohima: The Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS) and Ao Senden have issued a formal warning against any attempts to stoke tribalism or communal hatred following a recent sexual assault case involving a minor in Dimapur. The two apex tribal bodies held a joint meeting in Tuensang to address concerns that defamatory and malicious online commentary could threaten the historical bond between their communities.
In a declaration signed by CKS vice-president N. Sipong and Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong, the groups stated that such inflammatory actions would be viewed seriously and handled accordingly. The statement noted that these divisive efforts could hurt public sentiment and undermine a relationship that has stood the test of time since the days of their forefathers. The leadership emphasized that both communities remain committed to nurturing their long-standing friendship despite current challenges.
The organizations expressed strong condemnation of the crime and extended their solidarity to the victim. They identified the accused as O. Watimeren Jamir and Akangkokba of Unger village, along with Tsuktimongba of Sungratsu village. The meeting concluded with a call for swift legal action, stating, "The meeting expressed hope that speedy justice would be delivered to the victim and called for exemplary punishment for the alleged accused."
