Aizawl: Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh has unveiled a series of measures to strengthen Mizoram's cooperative dairy sector. During a visit to the Mizoram Milk Producers' Cooperative Union Limited facility in Aizawl, the minister emphasized the need to increase local milk production to meet regional demand and ensure the state keeps pace with its neighbors in dairy development.
The central government has revised its funding model for dairy projects, shifting from a 75:25 to a 90:10 ratio. This change reduces the financial load on the state government and is expected to accelerate development efforts. The Centre plans to modernize milk processing plants and procurement systems across the state while working with the National Dairy Development Board to improve cattle breeds through artificial insemination.
Officials also highlighted plans to expand the marketing of products like ghee, paneer, and rasmalai within local markets. During the event, the minister inaugurated a new cafe and sales outlet at the dairy site and inspected plans to upgrade the existing milk processing facility. Several new products, including baled silage and improved cattle feed, were introduced to support farmers in their daily operations.
The minister noted that while the Centre remains committed to the Northeast, the long-term success of these dairy initiatives relies on the dedication of local farmers and the state government. The program saw participation from several Union ministers, state officials, and representatives from the cooperative sector.
