Aizawl: The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has officially extended the tenure of Mizoram’s primary environmental regulatory bodies. A notification issued on May 31 confirms that the terms for members of the State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority and the State Expert Appraisal Committee will now run until December 12, 2026.

These committees play a critical role in the state's development framework. The State Expert Appraisal Committee is tasked with evaluating project proposals, while the State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority holds the final responsibility for granting environmental clearances.

By extending these terms, the ministry aims to prevent interruptions in the appraisal and approval process for various infrastructure projects. This extension will remain active until the government moves to reconstitute the committees or the new December 2026 deadline is reached, whichever happens first.
