Kohima: The Bharatiya Janata Party officially declared Mhomo Humtsoe as its candidate for the Wokha Town Council Urban Local Bodies by-election on June 13. The announcement took place at a campaign programme held at the VDB Hall in Wokha Town, attended by prominent party leaders including Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton and State President Benjamin Yepthomi.
Patton emphasized the stable relationship between the BJP and its alliance partner, the NPF, within the council. Addressing potential concerns regarding the electoral process, he stated that any reports of proxy voting or irregularities would be referred to the Election Commission. He noted: "At present, our alliance partner holds 11 seats while the BJP has three seats. Even if the BJP wins this by-election, our strength will increase to four seats, and there will be no issue as both parties remain alliance partners."
During his keynote address, Benjamin Yepthomi encouraged the local community to support Patton, highlighting his role in representing Nagaland at the national level alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Yepthomi also called for a transparent and democratic election, asserting that the most deserving candidate should win.
Humtsoe thanked the party leadership for the nomination and pledged to focus on the development of Tsumang B Ward No. 8. Advisor Daochier I Imchen supported the selection, describing it as a product of careful deliberation. Imchen reaffirmed the BJP's focus on grassroots governance and urged campaign workers to strive for a victory in the upcoming contest.
