Guwahati: The documentary Bhupen Da Uncut is hitting the road again. It will screen at the Chalachitram Film Festival in Jyoti Chitrabon on October 24, 2026. Shortly after, the Mumbai Indie-Film Festival in Mumbai will host the film on November 13, 2026. These showings celebrate the centenary of the legendary Bharat Ratna awardee and singer, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
Director Bobbeeta Sharma crafted this film 26 years ago using a high 8 camera. Chinmoy Sharma served as executive producer, while Ravindra Badgaiyan handled the editing. The footage offers a first-person account of the music icon. Hazarika speaks candidly about his childhood, his education in New York, and his connection to cinema pioneer Jyoti Prasad Agarwala. He even discusses his life with his wife, Priyamvada Patel, and recites unpublished poetry.
Recent stops included the Rutgers University of New Jersey on September 25, where journalist Sanghamitra Kalita presented the work. Professor Meheli Sen moderated a talk with Sharma, attended by the subject's son, Tez Hazarika. On October 3, 2026, the Consulate General of India in Houston and the Assamese Cultural Society Greater Houston hosted a tribute. Consul General DC Manjunath inaugurated the event, and author Laxmi Puri delivered the keynote address.
The documentary traveled to Kolkata on September 5 for an event organized by the Kolkata Assamese Cultural Association and the Assam government. Noted tablist Bikram Ghosh attended as the chief guest. He praised the film, stating he was "overwhelmed by the film, adding that its raw presentation was particularly appealing."
Earlier, the film appeared at the 2025 International Film Festival of India in Goa, along with screenings in Luxembourg, Poland, and London. On August 1, 2026, the India Habitat Centre in Delhi screened the film. Later that month, on August 29, it played at Assam Bhavan in Mumbai for cancer patients and their families. That event drew Maharashtra MLC Ranjith Mohite Patil, filmmaker Rima Das, and athletes Kamlesh Mehta and Monalisa Barua Mehta.
