Pallel Protest Demands Justice for Nongshum Victims

Imphal: Women from the Meitei and Maring communities gathered at the Temporary Market in Pallel, Kakching district, to protest the Nongshum killings. Organizers included the Pallel Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, United Committee Pallel, Social Development Organisation, and the Youth Volunteers Association.

Speaker Kerolin Maring blamed Kuki militants for the deaths. He called the loss of life intolerable and challenged the state to justify its definition of stability. During the event, he stated: "He also questioned whether the continued killing of indigenous people like animals could be considered stability by the government." He demanded the administration stop favoring specific groups and prioritize justice for grieving families.

Finance Secretary Romita Leimapokpam linked the current tragedy to the broader conflict that ignited on May 3, 2023. She slammed officials for failing to reach a resolution and demanded that ineffective leaders step down. The protesters called for a government focused on public welfare and the safety of citizens.

The group marched along the Imphal-Moreh Road after the sit-in. They chanted slogans demanding the arrest of the killers and the withdrawal of the Suspension of Operation agreement with Kuki militants.
