Guwahati: Barpeta Medical College and Hospital has entered a formal partnership with the Assam Cancer Care Foundation to improve cancer detection and prevention across the state. This agreement marks the first time a medical college in Assam has established such a collaborative framework with the foundation to boost community outreach.
The two institutions will coordinate health camps, cancer screenings, and public awareness campaigns. The Department of Community Medicine at the college will lead the implementation of these projects, with postgraduate students gaining hands-on experience through active participation in the foundation's initiatives.
Assam Cancer Care Foundation Chief Operating Officer, retired Major General Dr. Jayaprakash Yadav, said the organisation remains committed to its mission of conducting health screenings for one crore people across Assam. He expects the collaboration with the college to accelerate progress toward this goal.
Principal of Barpeta Medical College Dr. Romen Talukdar called the agreement a landmark initiative for the state. He expects the partnership to significantly improve early detection rates and public health education. The memorandum was formally signed by Dr. Yadav and Dr. Talukdar to solidify their combined commitment to cancer care.
