Shillong: A Bangladeshi man spent several hours stranded in a no-man's land along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya's South West Garo Hills district. The impasse in the Nandirchar sector near Mahendraganj began when the Border Security Force and Border Guard Bangladesh disagreed over the identity and origin of the man, identified by Indian officials as Sati Rajbanshi.

BSF officials stated they intercepted Rajbanshi while he was attempting to cross into India without travel documents. While the BSF alleged that Bangladeshi border guards attempted to push the man into Indian territory from his home village in Rajshahi, Bangladeshi authorities initially questioned his nationality and refused to accept him back. A BSF official rejected claims that the man was disabled, stating, "The narrative claimed by the Bangladesh counterpart was totally false."

The standoff persisted through the night after an initial commander-level flag meeting failed to produce an agreement. The situation finally resolved on June 11 after the man's relatives arrived with official documentation to verify his identity. BSF officials confirmed the man was handed over to his family, adding, "With this, the standoff was called off, and the situation is normal."
