BAN President Urges Students to Prioritize Entrepreneurship at AKTDGC Jubilee

Kohima: The Business Association of Nagas (BAN) President, L Mongkum Jamir, encouraged students to use the 50th anniversary of the Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Dimapur Government College (AKTDGC) as a catalyst for future planning. Speaking at the golden jubilee event on June 13, which centered on the theme of celebrating the power of education, Jamir urged attendees to reflect on their long-term goals.

Addressing the current employment landscape in Nagaland, Jamir criticized the state's heavy reliance on government positions. He noted that the region operates as a salaried economy, which remains unsustainable without private sector support. During his address, he emphasized the vital role of the private sector, stating, "The government is employed by the economy, which is created and built by entrepreneurs, business, enterprises, creativity, [and] innovation."

Jamir challenged the students to move beyond traditional job-seeking mindsets and instead cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit. He advised the youth to leverage technology and financial literacy, arguing that entrepreneurship should be a primary career choice rather than a secondary backup. By comparing Nagaland to rapidly developing nations like South Korea and Singapore, Jamir called for collective action to build a more robust economic foundation.

He concluded by asking students to consider their path forward, urging them to decide whether to wait for government employment or become job providers themselves. He emphasized that financial planning and small-scale investments are essential tools for those looking to build their own destiny and contribute to the state's economic transformation.
