Guwahati: The Baksa district administration officially launched its Annual Credit Plan for 2026-27 on June 9. The initiative aims to strengthen financial inclusion and improve credit availability across the region following a review of banking performance and government scheme implementation.
District Commissioner Kimnei Changsan chaired the meeting at the Mushalpur office, which brought together the District Consultative Committee and the District Level Review Committee. Officials assessed the district progress regarding priority sector lending, agricultural credit, and financing for micro, small and medium enterprises. Discussions also covered the expansion of microcredit through self-help and joint liability groups.
During the session, stakeholders reviewed the status of various government programs, including the Kisan Credit Card, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, and several insurance schemes. The committee also examined efforts to improve financial literacy and infrastructure, such as the installation of ATMs in unbanked locations.
Addressing the attendees, Kimnei Changsan emphasized the necessity of collaboration between banks and departments to expand reach. She stated, "Stronger coordination between banks and government departments is essential to enhance credit outreach and ensure effective implementation of welfare schemes."
The administration called for consistent financial awareness programs, better field-level monitoring, and increased corporate social responsibility efforts from banking institutions. Representatives from various agencies attended to coordinate strategies for improving service delivery throughout the district.
