Guwahati: Kartikeya Vajpai recently introduced his novel, The Unbecoming: Let Life Reveal Its Purpose, to readers in Northeast India during a launch event at the Guwahati Press Club. Published by Penguin Random House India, the book examines the complexities of modern identity, self-awareness, and the search for personal meaning. It tells the story of a famous cricketer named Siddharth and his mentor, Ajay, as they navigate the challenges of inner transformation and societal expectations.

The novel includes forewords written by the Dalai Lama and Swami Sarvapriyananda. During the launch, Vajpai noted that many people build identities based on fear or external ambition without questioning their origins. He invited readers to pause and consider whether their current path truly aligns with their authentic selves. The event drew a diverse crowd of journalists, students, and academics who engaged in a deep conversation about ambition and the pressure to succeed in today's fast-paced world.

Khagen Kalita, President of the Guwahati Press Club, participated in a discussion with the author, highlighting that the book provides a necessary space for introspection. He noted that Vajpai’s insights are particularly relevant for younger generations who often struggle with mental well-being and the weight of constant achievement.

Beyond the launch, Vajpai held several interactive sessions across the city, including meetings with students at Modern English School and a youth event hosted by JCI India Zone 25. These sessions focused on building emotional resilience and finding purpose beyond traditional definitions of success. Vajpai praised the cultural sensitivity of the Northeast, noting that the region is an ideal hub for meaningful literary dialogue.
