Kohima: Assam Rifles recently carried out a wide range of public welfare initiatives across Nagaland, focusing on healthcare access, youth empowerment, and community awareness. These programs, held in districts including Longleng, Tuensang, and Kohima, underscore the organization's commitment to regional development and national public health goals.
In Longleng, the force collaborated with the Phom Students’ Conference to host an NCC awareness seminar at VCC and VDB Hall. The session drew 84 cadets from local schools and colleges, providing them with information on government incentives and the leadership benefits associated with NCC participation. Participants expressed appreciation for the guidance provided, with attendees noting the event was a valuable opportunity for personal development.
Healthcare services formed a significant portion of the outreach. At the 3rd NAP in Tuensang, a dental camp provided screenings and treatments for 44 personnel, alongside oral hygiene education for students at the Assam Rifles High School. Meanwhile, the Kohima Garrison hosted an Ayushman Arogya Shivir on June 10 to support the national TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. This camp offered comprehensive health screenings, including chest X-rays and testing for HIV and hepatitis, to promote early diagnosis.
The force also partnered with the Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation to address substance abuse through a Youth Wellness and Awareness Programme in Kohima. Featuring the theme Unmasking the Appeal, the event reached 250 students and included the launch of an anti-tobacco campaign. The initiative concluded with a town-wide rally designed to encourage healthy living and tobacco cessation. Reflecting on the broader impact of these missions, officials emphasized the importance of community engagement by stating that the programs aim to be a way of "fostering leadership qualities and personal development" among local youth.
