Aizawl: The Assam Rifles recently finished a five-day boatmanship training program in Mizoram to prepare for the upcoming monsoon season. Running from May 26 to 30, the course trained personnel in essential skills including river navigation, boat handling, and flood rescue operations. Participants also practiced casualty evacuation, outboard motor maintenance, and tactical river crossing to ensure they can reach isolated areas during potential emergencies.
The training concluded with field drills designed to test the troops' response capabilities. As the Sentinels of the Northeast, the Assam Rifles maintains a strong focus on disaster management and supporting civil authorities throughout the region.
In a separate enforcement action, the Assam Rifles teamed up with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence to conduct a successful anti-narcotics operation. On May 16, security forces stopped a pickup vehicle at Mungiakami after receiving intelligence reports regarding illegal cargo. They discovered 700,000 Yaba tablets with an estimated market value of Rs 8 crore.
Authorities arrested 28-year-old Kauchar Hussain, a resident of Jatan Bari, during the operation. Both the suspect and the seized contraband were transferred to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further processing. Security officials stated that they will continue to increase surveillance to disrupt drug smuggling networks across the Northeast.
